Any one of any age can benefit from chiropractic care. Birth itself, whether natural or cesarean, can be traumatic. Positions the baby maintains in the uterus can also contribute to the first subluxations (misalignments) of the spine. If these misalignments go unaddressed, it can start us off early with improper biomechanics, leading to nursing difficulties, trouble sleeping, and delays in milestones and development.
Misalignments can also contribute to conditions being seen commonly in our society such as torticollis and plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome). Spinal subluxations are corrected using gentle chiropractic adjustments. Cranial sacral therapy and chiropractic cranial adjustments are also incorporated to address the changes that have taken place in the head shape. With improved alignment comes improved function, allowing your child to have a better overall ability to live to their best potential.
Chiropractic and Pregnancy
Chiropractic care in pregnancy is vital to the normal physiological function of both the mother and baby throughout pregnancy and birth. An important way to assess and treat pregnant women is with the Webster Technique. The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and diversified adjustment. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/ SI joint dysfunction. In doing so, neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis is facilitated. These misalignments of the sacrum may contribute to difficulties in labor due to inadequate uterine function, pelvic contraction, and baby mal-presentation. Many pregnant women also experience pain from the changes in their body and their biomechanics. Chiropractic care can target this dysfunction and alleviate discomfort.
Chiropractic and Wellness
Chiropractic adjustments not only help get you out of pain, but they work to keep the integrity of the nervous system intact. Regular adjustments can ensure that the daily impacts of your life are not wearing your health down over time. It is also a great way to become aware of blind spots in our movement patterns before they become a chronic problem or injury. Wellness visit frequency is individualized and depends on your lifestyle and health status. Together we will make a plan for your wellness goals.
Chiropractic and Cranial Sacral Therapy (CST)
Most people think chiropractors only adjust the spine. However, chiropractors can work on many parts of the body to help improve your body’s function. This includes the health of the cranial system. CST is used to help restore normal function to the cranial/dural-meningeal mechanism and the movement of cerebrospinal fluid. This re-alignment takes tension off the nervous system; releases cranial, fascial and muscle tissue fixations; and returns proper cerebrospinal fluid flow throughout the spine and entire body.
Chiropractic and Acupuncture
As an adjunct to the chiropractic adjustment, acupuncture and cupping are available. Acupuncture uses thin needles that are inserted into the skin and activated through gentle movements to stimulate the central nervous system. The tradition of acupuncture maintains that energy flows through the body, and we can influence it to obtain optimal balance and health.
Cupping is a technique that involves creating a vacuum suction in specialized cups that are placed on specific areas of the body that are receptive to acupressure, like the back, neck, and chest. This vacuum effect draws your skin upward toward the cups and allows fresh blood and nutrients to flow into the area with ease. The improved circulation may help with injuries, aches, and pains.
